COMMERCE & EMPLOYMENT BASED VISAS

E-1: for nationals of countries that have a Treaty of Friendship

Commerce and Navigation or Bilateral Investment Treaty with the United States and wish to come to the U.S. to conduct substantial trade between the U.S. and the treaty country;

E-2: for nationals of countries that have a Treaty of Friendship

Commerce and Navigation or Bilateral Investment Treaty with the United States and wish to come to the U.S. to direct and develop the operations of an enterprise in which they have invested a significant amount of capital;

 

E-3: for Australian Nationals

 

F: Student Visa

If you wish to attend a university or other academic institution in the United States.

Optional Practical Training: for F1 Students post graduation.

 

H1B—Person in Specialty Occupation

Requires a higher education degree or its equivalent. Includes fashion models of distinguished merit and ability and government-to-government research and development, or co-production projects administered by the Department of Defense.

 

H-1B1: Free Trade Agreement (FTA) Professional (ChileSingapore)

Requires a post-secondary degree involving at least four years of study in the field of specialization.

 

H-3: Trainee or Special Education visitor     

To receive training, other than graduate medical or academic, that is not available in the trainee’s home country or practical training programs in the education of children with mental, physical, or emotional disabilities.

 

L: Intracompany Transferee

To work at a branch, parent, affiliate, or subsidiary of the current employer in a managerial or executive capacity, or in a position requiring specialized knowledge.  Individual must have been employed by the same employer abroad continuously for 1 year within the three preceding years.

M: Student Visa

If you wish to pursue a course of study which is not principally academic in nature at an established vocational or other recognized nonacademic institution such as a post secondary vocational or business school

Q-1: Participant in an International Cultural Exchange Program

For practical training and employment and for sharing of the history, culture, and traditions of your home country through participation in an international cultural exchange program.

 

NAFTA Professional (TN) visa allows citizens of Canada and Mexico

, as NAFTA professionals, to work in the United States in prearranged business activities for U.S. or foreign employers. Permanent residents of Canada and Mexico are not able to apply for TN visas to work as NAFTA professionals.
